Blue Flame Oil was established in 1929. At its beginning, the company had only one truck to deliver kerosene fuel.
In those days, deliveries were made by hand. Five gallon buckets were brought into customers homes to fill twenty five gallon reserve drums. The fuel was used to light up stove heaters generally located in the kitchen. At the time the company was located on Franklin Street.
During the Second World War, oil was rationed, and the US government created stamps that were given to families in order to get heating oil delivered. Without these stamps there was no possibility of being delivered, the period was called the oil shortage.
Little by little, the heating systems were modernized, and after the Second World War thru the late fifties, most homes were being equipped with oil furnaces. Number 2 fuel is the same fuel still in use today, which means that at the time the heating systems were basically working the same as nowadays.
In the fifties, Blue Flame Oil was exclusively a fuel oil delivery company. It was not until the early sixties that Blue Flame began the service branch of the company, thus creating a full service company. Currently, Blue Flame Oil is owned and operated by Pat Somma. Blue Flame Oil provides Fuel Oil and Diesel fuel, heating and air conditioning service, new systems designed and installed, oil tank removal and installations.

Pat was born into the oil business and is proud of this heritage. His grandparents founded the company in 1929 when kerosene was the fuel of choice. Blue Flame has evolved though the years, passing to his father and now him. New Haven is home to both Pat and the company. It’s not unusual to find Pat out with the guys installing a new system. He’s hands on with all operations, even if those hands get dirty in the process.
Mike has been with the company since April of ’99. He started as a service tech and has moved into management. He’s a natural, learning the oil business from the ground up by working as a teenager in his grandparent’s company. Drawing on his experience and knowledge, he’s right on target when it comes to trouble shooting.
Darwin is our Service Dispatcher. He has been working in the oil business for over ten years. A little hyper but always cheery, he is the first one to offer help and get to the root of the problem.
Fiona has been with the company for 5 years and quickly became established as the ‘go to’ inner office person. She brings to the table over 20 years of office management experience.
Lee Gershman / Customer Relations: Lee has been involved in the oil business for 25 years and has the reputation for being a straight shooter. He does not shy away from taking the phone call to help the customer.
